Eight to receive up to $1,000 in scholarship funding from the Tideland Electric Care Trust
June 2024

Established in the spring of 2000, the Tideland Electric Care Trust awards eight $1,000 college scholarships annually. Applicants must be the legal dependent of a Tideland EMC member.

Two of the eight scholarships are reserved for students planning to attend a community college. Community college scholarships are paid as follows: $500 for the first academic year and $500 for the second academic year with proof of continued enrollment. The remaining awardees receive a one-time scholarship of $1,000. Congratulations to each of our scholars!


Abigail Bass

Abigail Bass

Northside High School
Abigail is the daughter of Michael and Heather Bass of Bath. She will attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington majoring in social work with a minor in forensic science. She plans to pursue a career in forensic social work.

 


Amirea Gibbs

Mattamuskeet High School
Amirea is the daugher of Kenneth and Chanta Rickard of Fairfield, and the late Marlon Thigpen. She will attend North Carolina Central University in Durham pursuing a degree in Nursing.

 


Brandon Arthur

Northside High School
Brandon is the son of Chad and Debbie Arthur of Belhaven. He will be attending Barton College in Wilson. Brandon’s intended major is business with a minor in criminal justice. He has also signed a letter of commitment to continue his baseball career with the Barton Bulldogs.

 


Caitlyn Spencer

Pungo Christian Academy
Caitlyn is the daugher of William and Jessica Spencer of Scranton. She will participate in Partnership Teach by attending Beaufort County Community College for two years before transferring to East Carolina University to complete her bachelors in one of four teaching degrees.

 


Gabriella Jordan

Gabriella Jordan

Northside High School
Gabby is the daughter of Matthew and Dana Jordan of Pantego. She will begin her college career at Beaufort County Community College. While undecided about her eventual career path, she has an interest in nursing and other medical related studies.

 


Layla Prescott

Layla Prescott

Pamlico County High School
Layla is the daughter of John and Kim Prescott of New Bern. She will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Layla plans
to build on her lifelong love of fossils and the physical earth by majoring in geology and public policy with an emphasis in environmental law.

 


Lelia Jones

Lelia Jones

Southside High School
Lelia is the daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth Jones of Washington. She will attend East Carolina University. Lelia’s intended major is nursing with a minor in child development. She then plans to enroll in the Nurse of Anesthesia Program for her Master’s degree in that field.

 


Mason Newman

Mason Newman

Northside High School
Mason is the son of Kevin and Kamala Newman of Washington. He will study business and economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mason’s goal is to then obtain a Masters of Accounting prior to taking the Certified Public Accountant exam.
